About Melody's Garden
I started Melody's Garden because I wanted to know about the ingredients in my skin care, hair care and cosmetics. I learned many of the ingredients were toxic, and I was paying high prices for the products I frequently used. More importantly, I was also trying to live a healthier lifestyle which included using natural body care products, as well as concentrating on organic plant based nutrition.
So, after studying with herbalist John Redden, owner of Viriditas Toronto, (with whom I made my first lotions) I was inspired to try and make my own products selecting only naturally healthy and organic ingredients and using techniques tried and true, some from hundreds of years ago. Subsequently, I met Jan Benham, England, owner of the Aroma Shoppe and School of Aromatherapy who taught me cosmetic making, and Tracey Tief of Annares Apothecary, Toronto, who was also invaluable to my education.
Since then, I've never looked back. After several years of experimentation with ingredients and techniques I was truly finding my way as a maker of small batch, hand-crafted skin, hair and makeup and soap products. After receiving encouragement from friends and family (and eventually friends of friends and family) I was encouraged to make and sell my products to the public – beginning at local farmer's markets in the Picton, Ontario, Canada region, and subsequently in and around Gorgona and Coronado, Panama.
Then, thanks to like-minded friends in business who began selling some of my products I have been fortunate enough to turn my original personal goals into my hobby and now a small business. So thank you to all my friends, family and new friends who have supported me in this venture. My promise to you all is that Melody's Garden will continue making your favourites -- and new products, too! -- with lots of love and integrity!
